Meet the Families
About Us
We met on a dating app in December of 2014. After “liking” each others’ profiles, Chris messaged Kyle with the opening line, “Band geeks unite!”
We had our first date soon thereafter, and immediately felt a strong connection. We fell in love quickly, moved into our first apartment in 2016, and bought our first (and current) house in 2018.
On our four year dating anniversary in 2018, we proposed to each other at the same time. We both laughed, said yes, and were officially engaged. It was special for us to know that we each essentially had the same plan of how to propose on the same day; we’re best friends and each other’s favorite person.
We got married in Chris’s sister’s backyard in a small family ceremony on October 12, 2019. Everyone enjoyed sushi, ice cream sundaes and champagne afterwards, and it was perfect.
About Kyle
Kyle is the first of two boys born to Lorna, a nurse, and Greg, a Captain in the US Air Force. He spent most of his childhood in New Jersey where he rode his bike around town with his friends, learned to play piano, and played all kinds of sports (baseball, soccer, tae kwon do, tennis, skiing, and more). Kyle is half-white and half-Filipino and remembers celebrating holidays and special occasions with traditions from both sides of his family. His love of math, science, and technology set him on a path to study Information Science in college. Today, he works for a telehealth company as a data analyst and product manager. Kyle still plays piano in a band and performs shows in the Boston area.
In Chris’s Words
Kyle is the most caring person I know. He is this incredible combination of goofy and logical; he can always use reason to solve problems and makes everyone around him laugh. Kyle makes me feel like my best self and is my teammate in everything. He is unwaveringly kind, and I cannot wait to see him instill that kindness in our child.
About Chris
Born and raised in California, Chris grew up in a loving home with mom Peggy, dad Gary, and older sister Liz; she is close with her parents and sister. As a kid, she participated in Girl Scouts, played trumpet in the school band, and competed in mock trial. She moved to Massachusetts for college and loved it so much, she never left. While she misses the mountains and warmer weather of California, Massachusetts is home. After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and her Master’s degree in Teaching, Chris began her career as a public elementary school teacher. She is currently in her 11th year teaching and especially loves doing hands-on science experiments with her students.
In Kyle’s Words
Loving Chris is easy. She sees every day as an opportunity to change the world, even if it’s 0.00001% at a time. Her passion for social justice spreads to all those around her, and she is fearless in the face of adversity. Chris loves me for the person I am today and will be in the future, and I know she will raise our child with that same love.
About Posey
In 2019, we adopted Posey, a scared 3-year-old brindle dog who gave a single, small tail wag. Initially anxious and shaking, she wouldn’t even eat. We quickly earned her trust with food, love, and effort (and string cheese), showing her she was safe. To help her feel secure, we were consistent in providing boundaries, care, and teaching her right from wrong (including a timeout for eating the mail). Though still afraid of scooters and storms, she now has coping skills and knows she is loved and safe at home.
Our Village & Villagers
Our families are looking forward to welcoming a new member! Most of Kyle’s family lives in New Jersey and are planning on making frequent trips to spend time with us and our child when we become parents. We stay in constant contact, usually through a group chat where we share pictures of our tasty meals or vacation spots.
Most of Chris’s family live in California and are already planning more frequent visits to Massachusetts. Her sister Liz and her husband Davi have two incredible kids, Marisol and Javier. Marisol is 10 years old and their biological daughter, and Javier is almost 4 years old and was adopted at birth. Both are smart, silly, loving, and adore snuggling Chris and Kyle when they visit. They are so excited to have a cousin!
Although our families’ homes are far away, we have many close friends here in Massachusetts that we consider family. All of our friends are very excited for us to grow our family through adoption, and have already started giving us baby clothes. We are lucky to have such a strong and supportive network of loved ones.
Our Life & Hobbies
Our shared experience of playing in bands drew us together, so it only makes sense that our love for music has helped our relationship grow. Whether it’s traveling to Portland, Maine to see our favorite bands, belting out bad Celine Dion impressions at karaoke night, air drumming during long car rides to New Jersey, or just throwing on a playlist of 90s one-hit wonders to get through our household chores on a Sunday, we love being enveloped by music. We are looking forward to days of silly sing-a-longs and nights of peaceful lullabies accompanied by ukulele and piano.
We have both loved playing and watching sports since we were kids. During the warmer months, we play in a slow-pitch softball league, which helps us stay active even on hot days. We will encourage our child to try many different activities so they can find their passion like we did.
We both grew up camping with Girl/Boy Scouts, and have continued that passion as adults. We are fortunate to live within driving distance of many hiking trails that are hidden gems. Our dog Posey loves to take the lead on a hike and is happiest trekking through the trees. We go on a multi-day car camping trip every summer and explore a new state park in the Northeast region each year.
Our Home & Neighborhood
We own a two-story house in a residential neighborhood in a city outside of Boston and drive a mid-size SUV. We live within walking distance to several schools, the public library, and have access to many parks and playgrounds. One of our 3 bedrooms will be the nursery for sleep and play. Every corner of our home has some kind of plant, and our walls are decorated with photos of some of our favorite memories. We can’t wait to add more!
Our backyard is small but mighty. Chris loves digging in the dirt, planting, and tending to the herbs, berries, vegetables, and flowers in the garden. We both like to sit outside and listen to the birds chirp as they splash in our homemade bird bath, watch the butterflies flit around the flowers, and feel the sun beat down as we relax on the deck. We are looking forward to sharing our love of the outdoors with our child, especially teaching them how to plant seeds and watching them grow together.
