Relationship: Maggi P. (she/her; 35 y/o) and Jon J. (he/him; 41 y/o) are a married couple without children, hoping to expand our family through adoption. We’ve been together for 8 years (married almost 5 years).
Dog: Bonnie, our 7-year-old boxer mix, is well-trained, affectionate, and great with kids!
House: Spacious condo in urban part of Jamaica Plain neighborhood in Boston
Race/ethnicity: We are both biracial (Asian/White); our ethnicities are Chinese (Jon), Filipino (Maggi) and Hispanic (both). Maggi is a 2nd-generation Filipina immigrant (mom from Philippines).
Employment:
- Maggi is a licensed child psychologist and social work professor specializing in trauma, discrimination (like racism and transphobia), and affirming care.
- Jon is a public health professor who specializes in community violence; also trained as a lawyer.
- Our work schedules give us great flexibility and we are lucky to have generous parental leave.
Additional training/skills:
- Maggi has been a trauma therapist for > 10 years. She is not afraid of oppositionality!
- Both Maggi and Jon have read widely about best parenting practices for kids with trauma histories and completed MARE’s TBRI training in Spring 2024.
Languages: English (both), college-level Spanish (Jon).
What We Offer
We will provide a trauma-informed, peaceful, predictable and loving home to help a child/children thrive. We are both the oldest siblings in our families of origin and spend much of our time mentoring and guiding young people, like our students and siblings, and for Maggi, her therapy clients, too. Inspired by trauma, hardships and loss we went through in our own childhoods, we now focus our research to understanding the needs of children exposed to trauma and discrimination and figuring out how to help them best. Our neighborhood and social community are diverse, and we have lived experience and/or training in multiple forms of adversity
