We were lucky to meet each other in our freshman year of college and have been together for more than 11 years. We have truly grown up together and our relationship has gotten stronger with each challenge we have faced, from deaths in the family to moves across country (and back again!) to figuring out what our individual passions are. We are now happily settled in our home here in Massachusetts.
Rosemary is an English teacher who is originally from southern Maine. She grew up as an only child in the woods, dreaming of moving to the city. Now happily in the city, she loves her work with students and is devoted to their success in the classroom. In her off time, she loves cooking and hosting!
Andrew, who grew up with two other siblings in upstate New York, also dreamed of moving to the city, and now works at a hospital as a psychologist. He does both research in clinical psychology and also works as a therapist. He loves his work because he gets to meet a lot of interesting people and help them through challenging times, but he also gets to spend time doing research and writing articles about ways to make treatment better. It’s the best of both worlds!
We love spending time outside on the weekends, whether it is puttering around the yard and landscaping (or learning how to landscape!) or just going for neighborhood walks. Our house is often filled with the sounds of the radio or music which we both really enjoy. We eat dinner together every night, and we’re looking forward to continuing this nightly ritual as we grow our family. Most nights after dinner, we happily end up on the couch reading or enjoying some T.V. to relax.
We are incredibly lucky to have such a supportive and wonderful family that is mostly within driving distance. Rose’s parents live just about an hour and a half north in Maine where she grew up. Andrew’s mom and her husband live just about the same distance south in Connecticut. Andrew’s father and his wife live in upstate New York in the house that Andrew grew up in. Finally, Andrew has two siblings; a sister who is living out in the Bay Area of California (our former home for a few years!) and a brother who lives in Philadelphia with his fiancee. This child will be the first grandchild, niece/nephew, or great grandchild for both of our families, and everyone is looking forward to growing the family!
We were lucky enough to be able to buy a new home when we moved back to the East Coast from California last year. We live in a neighborhood that is a great mix of city and suburb. We have a nice back and front yard, but the excitement and ease of city life right nearby. Our house includes a nice open downstairs area that connects the kitchen, dining room, and living room. We have always imagined evenings where Rose is cooking dinner, Andrew is getting work done or watching the news, and our child is at the kitchen table getting homework done.
We love to celebrate holidays and all the traditions that come with them. Andrew’s father is a church organist so he grew up heavily involved in the Methodist church. Rose’s family is not religious, but love the traditions that come with holidays. Andrew and Rose have kept many of their traditions from growing up and continue to celebrate Easter, Christmas, and Thanksgiving with family every year. Rose loves decorating, whether it is sticking little flags out for Memorial Day or carving jack o’ lanterns. Birthdays are also welcomed with the appropriate excitement of a homemade cake every year. Our favorite holiday is probably Thanksgiving, which Rose has hosted every year since college. She keeps a book with the guest lists, menus, and any memorable events (like the year Andrew’s brother brought his pet rabbit which Frankie, our cat, thought looked like a great addition to dinner!).
